Mary Sinnott Eidenbach

With only nine days left before I depart for Ireland, I am still researching every lead I can find.  This week, amazingly, two pieces of old info from relatives resurfaced.  One came in the form of a 1998 letter from my Aunt Anne (Coffinger) Miner before I went to the Ireland for the first time.  She spelled the "Lafferty" name in her letter to me as "Laugherty".

I also found a copy of an email from my cousin, Gene Phillips (son of Margaret Coffinger Phillips), who mentioned that in reviewing an old family album with Aunt Anne that there were photos of "Mary Eidenbach" and a "V. Eidenbach".  Gene also mentioned an "Aunt Alice Sinnott" (possible wife of Martin Sinnott) who may have been the mother of John & Alice Sinnott of Glens Falls (whom Gene thought I knew of, but had never heard of!) who sold insurance.

So... with these leads, off to Ancestry.com I head... praying to God that the Eidenbach info may lead me to more info on Mary's parents' birthplace(s) in Ireland!

Findings:

A 1954 Saratoga Springs, NY City Directory lists "Mrs. Mary Eidenbach" at 6 Jumel Place.  (I kind of paused reading that address as an old favorite restaurant of mine in Saratoga's (no longer there) was called Madame Jumel's... I wonder if in the vicinity of where my great-aunt Mary may have lived...)

1940 US Census shows Veit Eidenbach (age 62) and Mary Eidenbach (age 53) living in Queens, NY. She worked 48 hours weekly as an attendant in a hospital; Veit worked 24 hours a week as a buyer/salesman for a butcher shop.  He was born in Germany.  She in New York.   They lived at 1824 Putnam Ave., Queens.

1920 US Census shows them living at 205 East 58th Street in Manhattan. He was 33 years old and had immigrated in 1889. She was 27.  He is a butcher and she is a nurse.  No child listed.  But here is the WEIRD thing... Mary lists her Father (Edward Sinnott) as being born in Ireland... but lists her Mother (Mary Lafferty Sinnott) as being born in FRANCE and speaking FRENCH as her native tongue!  WHAT?!?
